The horns are usually painted as decoration during Mattu Pongal festival to celebrate all cows and bulls that have been helping the people. I guess the colors helped them to identify their cattle pretty easily as well – so, every household/owner paint their own combination. Thank you as always for your observation and wonderful comments. 🙏😊
Traditionally cows and bulls are considered sacred and they celebrate Mattu Pongal every year to decorate and worship their cattle. The color combinations have come up to label their own cattle, I guess. Thank you Arati for your appreciative comments. 🙏😊
Fantastic photo, but why are the horns painted?

I like the compositions you chose and find the color combination delightful. Is there a significance to painting the horns yellow and re?

Seems like such a more gentler and humane practice than branding.
