Kathakali make up is very distinct and brings out facial expressions in prominence. Fascinating to the watch the live performance up close and delight to photograph.

Thanks a lot, Sreejith for your comments. I would love to watch this performed in Kerala one day. I heard about Thayyam but didn’t have any chance to see it. It’s always sad we tend to lose some arts over the time.
Lucky you. Nice photo.

So good to see that you have got an opportunity to experience Kathakali!
I am from Kerala and Kathakali is one of the most interesting performing art in the world.
It takes over five years of training for one to perform Kathakali on stage.
We have another incredible artform, named Thayyam, but that’s more of a ritualistic folk artform and not a performing art form!
