Lalitpur living Goddess (Kumari) in her throne, Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Nepal

I have read a bit about Nepal’s tradition of selecting a Kumari (a living Goddess) for their worship and meeting one of such Kumari was a very soulful and unique experience during my trip to Nepal and Tibet. One of several ways to be in touch with divine I guess. I still remember the vibrant red color that was present and I am glad with this shot that has brought some of that vibrancy.

      1. I think some of them may find it difficult initially to go back to normal life after their puberty, when they’re released from their Kumari status. I understand many of them marry and lead a common life. Certainly intriguing 🙂
