Most of the ancient temples and mountains where monks lived, would usually have a pond and they always grow lotus plants in them. Lotus has a spiritual significance in all religions from India; with one legand being Buddha had given the lotus flower to his disciple Mahakasyapa as sermon and he attained the wisdom by looking at the flower.
